Bone Grafting

What you need to know

At Malone Oral Surgery, we can provide bone grafting procedures which can replace missing bone. These bone grafting procedures can be vital if required for implant integration into the body.

The objective of the graft is to establish a sturdy and enduring base for the implant's insertion. This process involves inserting bone graft material into a gap in the existing jaw bone, prompting bone growth and effective healing. As the bone regenerates, it absorbs the graft material.

This process can take anywhere between 6 weeks to 9 months to be fully integrated, depending on the severity of the deficit and the health of the existing bone. Grafts can be done under a local anaesthetic, or we also offer oral sedation for patients who may be nervous.

There are several factors that may necessitate a bone graft, including:

  1. Gum or periodontal disease, which can diminish bone health levels.
  2. Injury or trauma to the face and jaw region.
  3. Patients who have undergone prior extractions and have left those areas vacant, resulting in reduced bone density.
  4. Complex dental extractions that have led to bone loss.
